LAWRENCE A. VOGELMAN, the son of a WWII Veteran, leads the VFNH Legal Committee in support of Boots on the Ground Legal Aid for Veterans. During his service as President of the New Hampshire Bar Association, Vogelman made veterans legal outreach a top priority during his term. Teaming up with the Veterans Law Project supported by the Veterans Foundation, the organization is pursuing a major outreach effort to provide legal representation for veterans in need.
He is a 1973 graduate of Brooklyn Law School, where he was a member of the Law Review and elected to the Order of the Barristers. Attorney Vogelman has been a trial lawyer for over 40 years, and has tried hundreds of cases to verdict, and handled dozens of appeals in state and federal courts throughout the country. His practice is primarily in the areas of criminal defense, plaintiffs’ civil rights, employment law, professional malpractice and complex commercial and tort litigation. Attorney Vogelman is admitted to practice before the courts of the states of New Hampshire and New York as well as the United States Supreme Court, United States Courts of Appeals for the First, Second, and Third Circuits, and federal district courts in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, and the District of New Hampshire.
The only Fellow of the American Board of Criminal Defense Lawyers in New Hampshire, Attorney Vogelman was also, for six years, on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is also a member of the American Associated For Justice, the New Hampshire Association of Justice, the New Hampshire Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and a founding member of the New York State Association for Criminal Defense Lawyers. He is a Master Emeritus of the Daniel Webster Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
A trained and experienced mediator, Attorney Vogelman mediates civil controversies in both state and federal courts. He was also certified as qualified to act as lead trial counsel in death penalty cases in the State of New York, and has represented death row inmates around the country.
Attorney Vogelman is a frequent lecturer in the areas of civil rights litigation and professional ethics as well as virtually every area of criminal defense. For over 25 years, he has traveled around the country training law students and lawyers in trial advocacy. For the past decade, he has been the co-editor of West’s treatise, Identification, originally authored by Judge Nathan Sobel.
Before joining Nixon, Vogelman, Barry, Slawsky & Simoneau, Attorney Vogelman was a partner at Shuchman, Krause & Vogelman in Exeter, New Hampshire. He came to New Hampshire from New York in 1994, and spent two years as Deputy Director of the New Hampshire Public Defender. Prior to that he spent fifteen years as a professor at the Cardozo School of Law in New York where he and Barry Scheck built the school’s clinical and trial advocacy program. For more than ten of those years he and Professor Scheck were law partners in the firm Vogelman & Scheck.
Attorney Vogelman lives in Durham with his significant other, Dottie Oliver. When not trying to change the world “one case at a time,” Larry is a basketball referee and an avid, albeit fair to middling, tennis player.
